Offshore Screened at ELFF

By Taryn Shick

The film Offshore that I have reviewed and been following the progress of from production to distribution is one step closer to the distribution end. It will be screened at this year’s East Lansing Film Festival.

Offshore is a made-in-Michigan production. It’s great to see a film outside of the Hollywood production system going through the stages that a film goes through. Will it get theatrical distribution or will it only get released onto DVD? How well will it fare?

Offshore will be screened as part of the Lake Michigan Film Competition which showcases over 40 films from the four states that border Lake Michigan – Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. The films will be screened from 11:30 a.m. to approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 25. An awards ceremony for these films will be held after the screenings at 7:00 p.m. I truly hope Offshore receives one of these awards.

Another Michigan film will also be screened during this competition. The Death of Michael Smith, which I mentioned in my article on the Michigan Film scene, will screen at 2:00 p.m. in the Capra Theatre. Offshore will be showing directly after at 4:30 p.m. in the same theatre.

The East Lansing Film Festival takes place on the campus of Michigan State University and runs from March 21-29. For directions to the various screening locations, go to: www.elff.com

In addition to screenings on campus, there are screenings at the nearby Celebration Cinema in Lansing. Tickets for these screenings can be purchased at: www.celebrationcinema.com

Please take the time to see Offshore and other great films at the festival. Take a chance and see a film that you haven’t seen the trailer for a hundred times, that doesn’t have any big names in it and was made with more blood, sweat and tears than money. You may just find it refreshing.
